Immersion-2: Immersion Cooling Platform
for 3M™ Novec™ Engineered Fluids

Immersion-2 is an immersion cooling platform design for 3M™ Novec™ Engineered Fluids such as Novec 7000 and Novec 649. The system features a modular design in a 19-inch server rack form-factor, with various custom shapes and sizes available on request. With the only requirement being access to facility water, systems can be installed next to existing infrastructure, into purpose-built locations, or in confined spaces and harsh environments.

Immersion-2 is also a blueprint for an extremely energy efficient and space saving immersion cooling facility and container datacenter. By utilizing passive-two-phase immersion cooling in an open bath design, customers benefit from massively reduced cooling energy bill, lower acquisition costs, space savings, and a truly universal and durable system.

Due to its modular design, the first 500kW immersion cooling facility was completed in less than six months and is now Asia’s most energy efficient datacenter and might as well be one of the most energy efficient in the world. Boasting a PUE of less than 1.02 (with no strings attached) in Hong Kong’s hot and humid climate, the first-of-its kind facility is located in a high rise building and fits in the size of a standard shipping container.

Truly Universal

Immersion cooling is truly universal. Fits any shape, size or form. Eliminates duplicate parts.

No Noise, Fans or Dust

Without fans, there is no noise or dust. Raised floors and aisle containment not required.

Modular Rack Design

Systems can start small and grow with the application. And co-exist right next to traditional infrastructure.

Technical Overview:

  • Enclosure and rack design for 18-225kW per rack
  • Standard 19” server rack design, no special form-factor required
  • Modular system, fits any hardware
  • Built for high performance computing (HPC), including GPU, CPU or ASIC based systems
  • Truly universal & non-proprietary (customer selects hardware installed and can perform service or upgrades)
  • Fully redundant cooling system
  • Thermal insulation, no CRACs, air handlers or hot/cold aisle needed
  • No raised floor or high ceiling requirement
  • Operates silent and dust free, no moving parts
  • Enclosures and vital parts made in Germany

3M™ Novec™ Engineered Fluids

  • Environmentally friendly, non-toxic and non-flammable
  • Fluids are odorless and not oily (hardware comes out dry)
  • Fluids are inert with a shelf life of 30 years

Container Data Center

We are strong believers in modular data center infrastructure. Building Immersion-2 into a container will prove to be an extremely worthwhile investment, further reducing capital expenditure while providing more benefits to the user. It can move where it is needed most, without wasting money or time on building fixed infrastructure. Best of all, there is no need for access to facility water, it’s all built into the container.

Consulting and Engineering Services

Allied Control provides modular enclosure and facility design, remote or on-site project management, training, material and feasibility studies and builds complete systems as one-stop solution provider. Clients can also access our in-house development and test platforms. The company is looking for partnerships and clients worldwide to establish passive two-phase immersion cooling as the new gold standard for systems that require a high density. Passive two-phase immersion cooling using 3M Novec Engineered Fluids is one of the most elegant ways to cool, no matter if HPC, special electronics or cloud computing.

More Efficient Than Air, Water or Oil

Immersion cooling has been around since the era of the Cray-2 supercomputer, but it has been considered too advanced and costly for non-military applications until recently. At this day and age, this assumption is simply not true any longer and we cannot afford to ignore this elegant solution to the high density cooling challenge.

The truth is, traditional cooling systems that use air, water or oil are complex and costly. The simplified approach of open bath immersion cooling offers a true alternative solution, saving large amounts of energy, greenhouse emissions and space. It also resolves a number of today’s engineering bottlenecks, allows manufacturers to build better hardware without heat transfer constraints, while also being much cheaper and less complex to build.

It's an open and future proof platform and it will play an important role in solving the energy crises we see in datacenters today.

Global Projects

Hong Kong is one of the fastest-paced cities in the world. It has remained the world's freest economy since 1995, with low tax, no import and export restrictions, free trade and travel. Being located in the financial powerhouse and tech hub of Asia, we are well equipped to work on global projects. No matter how big, or small.

Hot & Humid

Most would consider Hong Kong's cramped living conditions, sky high property prices, and hazy skies as very challenging. When it comes to data centers, hot and humid climates are one of the biggest problems too. Hong Kong's power hungry infrastructure is a major disaster for the people's wallet and the environment. On the bright side, it's habitats like this that push companies to go the extra mile and make a change.
