Immersion-2: Immersion Cooling Platform
for 3M™ Novec™ Engineered Fluids

Immersion-2 is an immersion cooling platform design for 3M™ Novec™ Engineered Fluids such as Novec 7000 and Novec 649. The system features a modular design in a 19-inch server rack form-factor, with various custom shapes and sizes available on request. With the only requirement being access to facility water, systems can be installed next to existing infrastructure, into purpose-built locations, or in confined spaces and harsh environments.

Immersion-2 is also a blueprint for an extremely energy efficient and space saving immersion cooling facility and container datacenter. By utilizing passive-two-phase immersion cooling in an open bath design, customers benefit from massively reduced cooling energy bill, lower acquisition costs, space savings, and a truly universal and durable system.

Due to its modular design, the first 500kW immersion cooling facility was completed in less than six months and is now Asia’s most energy efficient datacenter and might as well be one of the most energy efficient in the world. Boasting a PUE of less than 1.02 (with no strings attached) in Hong Kong’s hot and humid climate, the first-of-its kind facility is located in a high rise building and fits in the size of a standard shipping container.

No Noise, Fans or Dust

Without fans, there is no noise or dust. Raised floors and aisle containment not required.

Container Data Center

We are strong believers in modular data center infrastructure. Building Immersion-2 into a container will prove to be an extremely worthwhile investment, further reducing capital expenditure while providing more benefits to the user. It can move where it is needed most, without wasting money or time on building fixed infrastructure. Best of all, there is no need for access to facility water, it’s all built into the container.

Immersion cooling has been around since the era of the Cray-2 supercomputer, but it has been considered too advanced and costly for non-military applications until recently.
