Finding so many masks was not an easy task, given the current situation – even in Hong Kong. But here, the elderly are at especially especially high risk of catching COVID-19. Often living alone, they face great difficulty in finding such Personal Protective Equipment as face masks and hand sanitizer. To help contribute, Allied Control’s CEO Kar-Wing Lau has made a donation in the name of Allied Control, in the hope of showing that everyone can help – you and I as well.
According to this South China Morning Post article, the elderly in Hong Kong, as in many other countries, are among the city’s most vulnerable group and are being particularly harshly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and its higher mortality rate among the aged. Making up some 152,000 people over 65, many of them have little or no help from family members and are left to fend for themselves, sometimes with very little financial resources. This can result in long painful hours in line for what little PPE such as masks are still left on the market — if they can afford them.
Another source of hardship is the anxiety caused by their increased isolation due to the mass cancellations of their usual social and community activities. Being generally less technology-oriented, this often means not being able to keep themselves busy at home by communicating with friends and family or engaging in other online activities.
For these reasons, we felt it was important that we help out in any way we could, with the supply of face masks and hand sanitizer we were able to procure.
Please remember to always follow best accepted practices for your own hygiene, and stay safe: wash your hands often, don’t touch your face, and wear a mask when you’re out in public places – for your good and the good of those around you. When you can, help those who can’t help themselves: we all need to contribute in this difficult time that is affecting us all.

The donated masks are unpacked at their destination.

If you would like to donate few Hong Kong dollars (1 USD equals roughly 7.75 HKD as of end of May 2020), we have set up a crowdfunding campaign right here where you can donate to help protect Hong Kong’s poorest elderly from Covid-19. We thank you with all our hearts for you contribution – it may well save someone’s grandmother or grandfather.
A warm-hearted THANK YOU from all of us at Allied Control!
